Flooding, Landslides Claim Nine Lives in Indonesia’s Aceh
Ibnu Harris Alhussain, who leads the provincial Search and Rescue Office, told Xinhua by phone: "The landslides occurred at several points in Takengon City, Central Aceh Regency, leaving nine people dead."
Emergency teams comprising local search and rescue personnel, military troops, police forces, and civilian volunteers have extracted 289 residents from affected zones—predominantly women and children—while continuing active rescue missions, Alhussain reported.
Heni Nurmaini, head of emergency response, equipment and logistics at the provincial Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency, confirmed the natural disasters have impacted numerous regencies throughout the territory.
The devastation has spread across Pidie Jaya, East Aceh, and Aceh Tamiang regencies, alongside additional administrative areas, according to Nurmaini's assessment.
Rescue operations remain underway as authorities work to reach isolated communities and assess the full scope of damage across Aceh's flood-stricken regions.
