Indonesian President Prabowo begins official two-day visit to Pakistan
Traveling with a senior delegation that includes key ministers and officials, Prabowo was welcomed at Rawalpindi’s Noor Khan air base by Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This marks Prabowo’s inaugural trip to Pakistan since assuming office, and the first visit by an Indonesian leader since 2018.
During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to participate in detailed discussions with Sharif and hold meetings with Zardari, Pakistan’s army chief Gen. Asim Munir, and the head of the Defense Forces, according to official statements.
Both sides are expected to review an extensive agenda focused on advancing bilateral ties and identifying new areas of joint work, including commerce, investment, defense collaboration, public health, digital technology, climate initiatives, education, cultural exchange, and broader regional and international cooperation.
A number of Memoranda of Understanding are anticipated to be finalized during the trip.
The visit also aligns with the 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the two largest Muslim-majority nations. Between January and October 2025, trade between Indonesia and Pakistan reached roughly $3.3 billion, with palm oil remaining Indonesia’s leading export to Pakistan, according to reports.
